For those interested in participating in one more extra credit project...

Please visit an art/design exhibition, studio, bookstore, film-screening, or event, and create a simple HTML diary entry (webpage) of the event and upload it to your class website.

Before the consolidation of web posts into the closed social media ecosystems of today, there was an active community of loosely connected (and unconnected) individuals creating their own websites and online diaries. Some of this took place via more expressive platforms such as Geocities and Open Diary, as well as simple HTML sites and webrings. This resulted in individuals expressing themselves in unconventional ways, finding outlets for niche interests that may not be acceptable in day-to-day interactions.

The Facebook

With the advent of Web 2.0, and the instrumentalization of our activity online, we've seen the parameters around how we may choose to document and express our experiences online become more restricted – both technically and socially.

Think of your online diary post as a blog or social media post that you control the parameters around, that don't need to conform to those rules and standards. For instance, would you like to make your post entirely image based? Do you want to add media embeds from several different platforms? Do you give your experience a star rating? Or somehow measure the experience in totally your own way? Consider how you can share about an experience outside of the confines of web 2.0 (and beyond).

This doesn't mean you need to make something technically advanced (I would suggest the opposite), but something on your own terms.

Some Ideas for a Visit

note: you can make the website about an experience you've already had within this semester
